Chess - tChess Pro App Reviews

Please make hint level adjustable.

This is a very good chess program. I liked very much the clarity and the simplicity of the display, without those distracting or noisy effects found in other chess programs. I would have given it five stars if the hint level were adjustable. What I mean is the following: Under (SETTINGS --> HINT TOOLBAR BUTTON), the user should be able to choose the time, in seconds, during which the program "thinks" before indicating the hint.

Great, and Great for Studying too

As other users say, its needless to say the engines strength of tChess Pro. Honestly speaking, to me, the maximum setting of tChess Pro is only necessary when I analyze a game. :) Among its features, I love "importing .pgn file" most. This is an essential feature in learning tactical patterns which many grandmasters think is the crucial training. For my example, I made a pgn file by myself while studying a chess book, uploaded it to google docs, go to my google doc folder with Safari on iPod, there is already a button named "open with tChess Pro". (There might be more ways to import .pgn, like iTune doc, though I didnt try all. I tried Fritz, but realized that it can download chessbase file from only their server. or Copy/Paste - much more steps to get it done.) As a chess learner, Id like to suggest one impromevent to Tom Kerrigan. (Long time ago, I studied his TSCP to study how to make chess engine, his code was simple, clean and efficient) * (suggestion) Navigate games in one database(pgn), like Next/Prev Game However, even without this, its already perfect portable chess software. Thanks Tom P.S. for those who hesitate to buy because of blue and marble chess board in screenshots, Id say tChess Pro also has a wood chess board option.

Good, but...

so far I have encountered these bugs: 1. After enabling and subsequently disabling blinfold mode, my profile was somehow erased, I had to recreate it and start from scartch. 2. When exiting the app during a game and coming back, it is in a zoomed mode (with only 2/3 of the top of the screen visible). Only closing and reopening the app resets it to normal display.

initial impression

I havent played Chess in years. At first I tried Chess Free which was a good app. I then found this one. There were enough features that I decided to drop the 8 bucks to try it. There in lies the problem. I am still figuring out this app, but the way I see it so far it was well worth the 8 dollars.

Great computer play!!

This is an app that does what it promises. It has a great chess computer play program Very much recommend this program for Lear ers like me out there!

Perfect?

Be aware that I have never played chess in my life until a month ago. After my first game I was hooked so I bought this program after reading the reviews. As a beginner, I find this game to be perfect. What really keeps me playing is the rated games. Starting low and then trying to improve your rating is great. This game has way too many options for me (beginner). I probably could have gotten by with the lite version. Importing game files etc is all just beyond me, but I could see it being something I can grow into down the road. Graphics are clean. Sound is simple, nothing distracting. Because the game can show you the valid moves, it has interested my daughter who is almost six. I let her play when she wants, and she is slowly learning the moves of each piece because of this feature. The only problem I have is that when I click out to my home screen, and then try to go back into it, I get a magnified screen that only shows about half of the chess board. I have to kill the program from the iPad multitasking bar, and then relaunch it. Ive seen other people mention this issue too. Minor annoyance. I give this four stars, and once it has no more issues minimizing and ripening I will give it five.

Its a good chess game

Its good, but I feel the quality of the pieces could be smoother and there could be more boards and pieces to choose from. Good engine though.

Best chess app Ive found!

This is overall the best chess app Ive found for my iPhone! The Pgn support is good 4/5! I use this app to play my email chess games, works great I can disable all the openings and chess engine because of course using them would be illegal in an email match! I have one suggestion though! There is no resign feature or draw offer. I own fritz and shredder for iPhone and although they have some great features tchess is my main chess app! Keep up the great work!

Great!

I am a beginner, and I find so much in this app that I can use to learn and improve my game. Keep up the good work!

Exceptional

At $8, t Chess Pro is the most expensive app Ive purchased. However, being a chess fan, it is worth every penny spent. I strongly recommend this app for any eager chess fans, beginner or expert.

Annoying error messages

The app is great but since the update to iOS 5 I get these annoying messages saying a save file or a dat file cant be created or something of the sort. Its quite annoying.

Chess

Great game. Does everything it says. Its worth the money.

IPhones greatest !

Tom Kerrigan did a real genius work here. I never thought this possible so far, You mustve been on the Chessboard for some time. Keep the good work guys, Youre realy doing something for CHESS here, simply Thank You, I hope its going to stay that way. I like strong engines and people who do their homework. Bow in appreciation, from the Chessworld...Thank you.

Great program

Ive tried quite a number of mobile, iPhone/iPad chess programs and I found this one be the best by far! Im using it less to play against it (yes, I lost a few games, it even rates your play) but more for analyses of games I played with other people. It has plenty of useful features, including an option of sending/receiving pgn games. It is great also for quickly setting a position, like Mate-in-2,3 etc, end-game studies and puzzles. Lastly, theres not a better tool for handling your correspondence games, if you happen to be into correspondence chess. App support is also very responsive and helpful. All in all, Im giving it 5-star mark without any hesitation.

Best chess app

Now that the background has been updated; its perfect . A must buy for chess addicts.

Best Chess App Out There

Easily the best chess app on the App Store

The interface is very easy to use, the computer AI is intelligent, and the graphics can be tailored to your liking. Easily the best chess app I have seen on the App Store to date. kudos to the developers on this one!

Great!

Super app. Only comment would that its the online game menu is a little hard to find.

Dissatisfied buyer

I bought this game for 8 or 9 dollars and its no better than the free ones download a free one you will be better off, I wish I could get a refund

Fun but buggy?

Fun to play but the online menu is hard to follow and I keep getting a message that there is a turn-based game when there are none.
